Kenwyne Jones celebrated his new contract with the only goal as Sunderland ended a run of four Premier League games without a win against Fulham.

The Trinidad and Tobago international, who signed a new four-and-a-half-year contract earlier in the day, pounced on the loose ball after Mark Schwarzer had saved Djibril Cisse's 55th-minute shot to edge a tight encounter.

Villa had England international Ashley Young sent off for an ugly lunge at Dean Whitehead 18 minutes from time, but went on to snatch victory with a controversial late penalty after Paul McShane's return from his loan spell at Hull ended in misery.

Referee Mike Dean awarded an 80th-minute spot-kick for the substitute's challenge on Gabriel Agbonlahor and Barry gleefully blasted the ball into the roof of the net.
